We were appointed as the main contractor for the roof replacement project at Ark Putney Academy. Initially, we inherited external scaffolding from the school, which had been set up for building surveys and drafting the roof replacement specification. We then adapted the scaffolding to meet our project requirements, with these modifications included in both the tender and the final contract.

The roof replacement presented significant challenges due to the complexity of the existing design. The main roof featured a barrel-vaulted flat structure with curved perimeters, requiring meticulous carpentry to preserve its original shape. Additionally, we had to source a specialized insulation board to conform to the roof’s contours. The new roof was installed using a three-layer insulated felt system, applied with gas torches. To manage fire risks effectively, we conducted a comprehensive Safe2Torch Risk Assessment, given the numerous combustible areas surrounding the roof.
The project, valued at approximately £220k + VAT, was completed within the contracted 12-week timeframe.
